Natural Soils are generated Blocks used for decoration. They are used in many crafting recipes, such as Concrete, Bricks, Ceramic, and Glass. They can also be used as basic building blocks as they are very easy to obtain.
Grass Block[]
A Grass Block is a natural Block that generates all across the surface of Open Worlds, it’s also one of the most common blocks.

Grass Block is a green Block with light green patches.
Obtaining[]
Grass blocks are generated at the topmost surface in forests, plains, meadows and the lower areas of mountains, they can be mined very quickly using any tool, even with your hand.

When you use shears to tap a block, it will turn into a dirt block and another grass block will drop. The grass block that is dropped can be continued to be used to create more dirt and grass blocks. In this way, you can get an infinite and renewable supply of grass and dirt blocks.
After shearing Grass Blocks, the Grass Block turns into a Block that, in the game’s files, is called Dirt|GrassRoots. This Block drops Dirt when mined. Only Dirt|GrassRoots will ever turn into Grass Blocks.

Dirt is a Block that is very common, as it is found in most biomes.

Dirt is a brown Block with tan patches.
Obtaining[]
Dirt always generate 4 layers under any grass blocks (in other words, you can find 4 blocks of dirt directly under any grass block before you reach stone). Dirts are also very easy to break with any tool, including your hands.

Rocky Dirt[]
Rocky dirt are crafted from 1 messy stone and 1 dirt, but they can also be found naturally at medium-high places in mountains.
Usage[]
Dirt can be crafted into Rocky Dirt and Messy Dirt in the Artisan Bench. They can be used as a decoration or used to save space for storing dirt and messy stones in the inventory and chests.

Sand[]
Desert
Sand is a Block that is used for decoration. It can be crafted into decorative Blocks, smelted into Glass or Bottles, making it an important requirement for Potions. It can also be used to farm Cacti.

Go into a Desert and mine Sand with your fist or with a Spade (if you want). Each Block drops one Sand. They also spawn in riverbeds or banks too.

Red Sand is an alternative for Sand. It is a reddish-orange and is used for making Red Sandstone Blocks.

Snow[]
A Snowy Plains Biome
Snow is another Block that is used for decoration and building, as they are the only purely white Block (except for Quartz, but that is an illegal Block) besides White Concrete in the game.
Obtaining[]
Go find a Snowy Plains Biome or find a high mountain, as they spawn on the ground in the Snowy Plains Biome, while they spawn above y=80 on mountains. Mine it with your fist or with a Spade.

Packed Snow[]
Packed snow is a sub-block of snow, found only in the Frozen Badlands biome.
Ice[]
Ice is a Block that generates on top of Water in Snowy Plains biomes. Moving on Ice makes you go faster than on normal Blocks.
Obtaining[]
Find a Snowy Plains Biome with a river. There should be Ice on top, unless someone already took it. Mine with a Pickaxe.

Ice can be crafted into Ice Bricks and Ice Bricks can be crafted into Ice Bricks Slabs.

Clay[]
a Block of Clay.
Clay is another Block used for decoration and is required for crafting Blocks like Concrete, Bricks, and Ceramic.

Clay is found in Riverbeds and Lakes.
Chalk[]
Chalk can be sometimes be besides clay. It can be used for colorful chalk.
Appearance[]
Looks like a white Block with even brighter patches that are barely visible.
Obtaining[]
Chalk can be found at the bottom of Riverbeds and Lakes, just like Clay.
Chalk also spawns in the Jungle Biome in Waterfalls.
Trivia[]
- Cacti grows four Blocks tall instead of three when it is placed on Red Sand.
